Born in Anacortes, and graduated from burlington-Edison High School.
Starting in 1979, worked summer vacations for the family septic business as a laborer. Guess you could say I started below ground level.
Earned a bachelors degree in Chemistry from Whitman College and an MBA from the University of Washington.
Returned to Skagit Valley to manage Northwest Septic, Inc. in 1989.
In 2000, started Mitchell Septic, Inc. focusing on septic system design.
Passed the Washington State Professional On-Site Wastewater Treatment System designer's test the first time it was offered (2001).
Extensive continuing education through WOSSA and independent research.
